Green Tips

Are you wondering what you can do to help the Earth? Look no further! Here are some handy tips to do your part in saving the world.

-Make Earth Day everyday! Grab a friend or family member and pick up garbage around your neighborhood. Not only will it reduce pollution, but it will also make your neighborhood look presentable and well-kept.

-Volunteer. There are many causes in the world that need help. Whether you want to volunteer at a soup kitchen, animal shelter, homeless shelter, or the local farm, try thinking of others and doing your part to help out.

-Instead of throwing away old toys, books, clothes, furniture, etc, donate them to places like Good Will or the Salvation Army or pass them over to friends or family. As they always say, "One person's garbage is another person's treasure!"

-Use reusable bags when shopping. Paper bags are just as bad as plastic so you're not doing any favors by using them. Not to mention reusable bags are MUCH more durable!

-Compost and Recycle. Have food scraps? Don't throw them away! Start a compost in your back yard and make great soil with it! Or, most food scraps can be fed to pigs. Recycle your paper, plastic, cans, and bottles. Some Recycling Centers even accept batteries, light bulbs, and more! Check yours to see what you can recycle!

-Use Fluorescent light bulbs. They last longer and use less electricity.

-Hang laundry outside to dry. It doesn't use energy and your energy bill will decrease. Not to mention the amazing smell!

-Unplug all electronics at night. Even when they are "off" they still take electricity.

-Get more uses out of things. Use both sides of paper and make old from new.

-Don't leave water running when washing your hands or brushing your teeth unless you're actually using the water.

-Take shorter showers. Using LESS water is key.

-Use rechargeable batteries instead of the kind you have to throw away.

-Wrap presents with scrap paper or newspaper- it uses less paper and looks a lot cooler.

-Plant a Tree. Trees give us oxygen so we can breath, shade to keep us cool, and eliminate pollution in the air.

-Buy local. To ship things around the world uses unnecessary oils. Not to mention that you'll be supporting local farmers.

-Walk or ride our bike instead of taking a car. If you can't walk the distance you're going, carpools are cool, too!
